Polar Bear Plunge

The annual Birch Bay Polar Bear Plunge attracts hundreds of people each year who brave the cool January 1 temperatures and run into the ocean. It’s a fun (and chilly) way to celebrate the new year. Even if you don’t plan on jumping in, there’s something fun about watching other people brave the cold water.

Get ready to dig in. It’s amazing how with a little imagination the beach at Birch Bay transforms into a series of sand castles and sand sculptures. Be creative and build sand sculptures such as geometric freeforms, sea turtles, alligators, mermaids, mythical castles, or your favorite pet.

This two-day event features music, beer garden, vendors, and of course sand sculptures! Registration is free and it’s open to families or more competitive teams. Awards are handed out each day at 4:30pm.

If you have a passion or hobby for classic cars, in addition to the Sand Sculpture the Rollback Weekend Car Show is perfect for you to either participate or come out and enjoy the show! Registration is $10.00 per day per car and this event is free to the public!
